The wait is over : Uganda's budget Reading set to unveil key spending priorities

Government has presented a Shs58.34 national budget for the 2024/2025 financial year, intended to focus on ‘full monetisation of the Ugandan economy through agriculture, industrialisation, expanding and broadening services, digital transformation and market access’.


As Uganda prepares to unveil its latest budget, expectations are high among citizens, economists, and policymakers. The country faces pressing challenges, including:


- Poverty reduction

- Infrastructure development

- Economic growth


Key areas to watch in the upcoming budget include:


- Healthcare: Will the government increase funding for public healthcare infrastructure and personnel?

- Education: Will there be a boost in resources for public education, teacher training, and scholarships?

- Infrastructure: What investments will be made in roads, bridges, and public transportation?

- Agriculture me : Will small-scale farmers receive support through subsidies, training, and irrigation projects?

- Social Welfare: Will social protection programs receive adequate funding to support vulnerable populations?

- Defense and Security: How will the government balance security concerns with transparency and accountability in spending?


As the budget reading approaches, Ugandans hope for a budget that truly reflects the needs of all citizens, drives economic growth, and promotes sustainable development.
